Kick Off 3 Weeks of Geek Events in Louisville on Sept. 1312 Sep
There’s an embarrassment of riches on tap for Louisville techno-pros and geeks of all persuasions starting tomorrow, with nearly a dozen major conferences or workshops occurring in our fair city over the next three weeks. Here’s the breakdown:
Sept. 13 (8am – 5pm): LDA/IABC Emerging Media Summit at the Crowne Plaza Hotel
This all-day workshop breaks down how to incorporate digital marketing and social media into your overall business plan, and we’ve got a lineup of nationally renowned speakers that outshines any five panels at SXSW.
Sept 13 (5pm-8pm): Startup Drinks at ParkVu HQ
Come trade wisdom and war stories (and free beer) with your fellow tech startup enthusiasts at the hip headquarters of one of Louisville’s most visible software upstarts. No pitches allowed.
Sept. 13 (8pm-11pm) LVL1 Open Meeting and Making
It happens every Tuesday, but if you’re making this one a marathon tech day, finish off with a trip to Louisville opensource hackerspace and see how the hardware-modders get it done. Free, fun and awesome.
Sept. 14 (5pm-7pm): Louisville HOT DOZEN Showcase 2011 at 21c Museum/Hotel
Check out the 12 local companies that EnterpriseCorp predicts to have the most growth potential this year: a category invariably dominated by tech startups. Admission is free, and the networking is priceless.
Sept. 19 (All Day): Talk Like A Pirate Day
Yes, seriously. If you want to be taken seriously in tech circles, you need to embrace this international holiday.
Sept. 20 (7pm-10pm): Louisville Build Guild meeting at Downtown BBC Tap Room
The premier social club for Louisville web developers gathers for its monthly meetup of pitch-free drinking and mustache-wearing.
Sept. 21-24 (All Day): IdeaFestival 2011 at the Kentucky Center
The ever-growing (and homegrown) conference of unconventional ideas invades the Ville once again. Be there or be ordinary.
Sept. 21 (6:30pm-8:30pm): Unofficial LDA IdeaFestival Afterparty at O’Shea’s on Main
Celebrate the first day of IdeaFest with your fellow Louisville Digerati at one of our favorite downtown pubs. Even if you didn’t attend the conference, your conversation is welcome.
Sept. 28-30 (All Day): TechRepublic Live 2011 at Hilton Garden Inn Northeast
The world’s foremost online community of IT professionals (which was founded and operates here in Louisville) holds its annual offline conference — and admission is free. The catch? It’s limited to the first 100 registrants. This year’s event tackles the rapidly evolving demands of IT, including the sudden influx of social media and consumer devices into the workplace. Not to be missed. (Full disclosure: LDA will be contributing to this event)
Sept. 30-Oct. 2 (All Day) DerbyCon at Hyatt Regency
One of the most advanced and compelling technology security conferences in the world returns to Louisville. If you’re concerned with — or in charge off — information security or data integrity, you can’t afford not to attend.
Oct. 4 (6:30pm-8:30pm) LDA presents Finding Your Edge in Mobile Marketing at Price Weber Auditorium
The LDA’s own Jim McDonnell will be sharing his hard-earned wisdom on marketing via mobile platforms (that means on phones). After heading up this effort for Papa John’s, he knows what he’s talking about. Admission is free; the cash bar isn’t.

I have to make it to IdeaFestival this year. I have tried to make it in years past to no avail and have regretted it. Not this year!
